Kwe! Congratulations, you have arrived in the community of Wendake.

Wendake

Hurons-Wendat

Wendake is an indigenous community located in Quebec City. Wendake means “among the Wendat”. It was the French who arrived in America and named them Hurons. Dormant for 100 years, Wendat, a language of the Iroquoian linguistic family, has been revitalized thanks to the numerous initiatives of the community. However, it is French that is commonly spoken. Renowned for its Hotel-Museum, Wendake also has several tourist attractions that showcase the culture and traditions of the Huron-Wendat people, in terms of architecture, gastronomy and craftsmanship.

According to Indigenous Tourism Quebec, this culturally very dynamic community has been established in Wendake since 1967 and has a population of close to 2000. The original language is Wendat, an Iroquoian language, but the Huron-Wendat now speak French. It is the only community of the Huron-Wendat Nation in Canada.
