Grenade

Andalousie

Located in Granada in Andalusia, the Alhambra is a palace and fortress of the Moorish monarchs constituting one of the major monuments of Islamic architecture. It was built between 1238 and 1358.

The name Alhambra, which means “the red” in Arabic, is probably derived from the reddish color of the tapia (clay) from which the outer walls were built.

Inside the fortress, there are beautiful Nasrid Arab palaces, the magnificent gardens of the Generalife summer palace, imposing Christian churches and medieval towers.
