The Eaton Centre is located on St. Catherine Street. At the time of its construction, Sainte-Catherine Street was the most important commercial street in Canada. The shopping center opened in 1976. It was called, at the time, Les Terrasses because of the large number of terraced floors it contained.<\/p>\n

At the end of the last millennium<\/p>\n

It began to be called the Eaton Centre in 1994 because of the very famous Eaton’s store that was right next door. Unfortunately the Eaton’s store closed in 1999 and was replaced by Complexe Les Ailes.<\/p>\n

Today’s Eaton’s<\/p>\n

The Eaton Center is still the largest shopping center in the entire downtown area. Built in 1962, Place Ville-Marie is the origin of underground Montreal. 5 years before the metro, it’s here that it all began. The square is made up of 5 business office buildings, a vast underground shopping mall, an esplanade and a brand new food court called: The Cathcart.<\/p>\n

A strategic location<\/p>\n

The building was built over a railway track that is still in operation. The main building has 42 floors making it the 4th highest in the whole city of Montreal.<\/p>\n

Following the construction of Place Ville-marie, several other skyscrapers were put under construction. The Central Station on de la Gaucheti\u00e8re is Montreal’s main train station. It is part of a para-railway complex that includes the Queen Elizabeth Hotel and the headquarters of the Canadian National Railway Company (CN).<\/p>\n

Its creation<\/p>\n

The station that would be opened in 1943 was intended to regroup all the CN railway lines in Montreal in its center. At that time, it contained 16 tracks.<\/p>\n

The station will soon be connected to the Metropolitan Express Network, once it is completed.<\/p>\n

You will find at the East and West ends two Bas-Reliefs representing life in Canada.<\/p>\n

This building is one of the legacies of Montreal’s 350th anniversary. Built in 1992, it is the tallest skyscraper in the entire city of Montreal. It has 51 floors and measures 205 meters which is the maximum allowed by the city of Montreal. Indeed, in order not to break the skyline, no building in Montreal can be higher than Mount Royal.<\/p>\n

Also, the building contains offices, but also a food court and even a skating rink where you can skate all year round!<\/p>\n

Finally, its 4 copper entrances are inspired by the architecture of the Marie-Reine-du-Monde Cathedral. This office tower is very special. It actually brings together several buildings from the Victorian era. They form in its center a magnificent atrium. You can admire a fountain with the statue of Amphitrite, the wife of Poseidon, the Greek god of the seas.<\/p>\n

A historical place<\/p>\n

Also, the Atrium passes over what is called, the alley of the fortifications. This alley is on the very site of the old fortification walls. These walls protected the city of Montreal. This is where we chose to display the piece of the Berlin Wall that the city of Montreal received as a gift for its 350th anniversary.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_single_image media=”46140″ caption=”yes” media_width_percent=”100″ uncode_shortcode_id=”163230″][vc_custom_heading heading_semantic=”h6″ text_size=”h6″ text_height=””]Complexe Guy-Favreau Grand Hall[\/vc_custom_heading][\/vc_column][vc_column width=”1\/2″][vc_custom_heading text_height=””]Complexe Guy-Favreau[\/vc_custom_heading][vc_column_text]The Guy-Favreau complex is a twelve-storey building built in 1984. It houses offices and services of the Government of Canada.<\/p>\n

It is home to, among other things, the Passport Canada, Justice Canada and Statistics Canada,<\/p>\n

Complexe Desjardins is a complex of office buildings. It contains 4 towers, its highest at 40 floors. It is the 8th highest skyscraper in the city of Montreal.<\/p>\n

The complex was built in 1976, specifically to house the offices of the Mouvement des caisses Desjardins. The complex is their main head office.<\/p>\n

It is also a large shopping center built on several floors. In its center is a large square where several events are held, such as the Santa Claus house during the holiday season.
