MAVIA APPROACH© in québec schools
Kathy Tremblay, the founder of the BougeBouge project, is a double Olympian in triathlon. In 11 years of competition, she participated in 52 events of the International Triathlon Federation and finished 20 times in the top 10 in official races. She is very knowledgeable in the field of motivation. One of her strengths is motivating people to avoid a physical dropout.
In order to start and maintain physical exercising, research shows that everyone must meet the three basic needs for autonomy, competence, and affiliation.
BougeBouge’s main goal is to offer an alternative for physical dropout by innovative and a scientific project. Based on self-determined goals – the MAVIA Approach, whose acronym stands for Self-Determined Motivation to active living in French. This includes a 6-week training program for teachers and school youth, the final step of the project will be a participation in one of our Classic events. The preparation for this training plan is to target the quality of motivation rather than the amount of motivation. Studies have shown that the quality of motivation, i.e self-determined motivation, is more effective at remaining a goal and maintaining a health behavior such as physical activity.
